Ground via meditation, breath work, or breathe with intention

Cast a circle of protection and then a square for grounding.

Invoke Mother Earth/Earth deity. You may use your own invocation or customize the one below:

I call upon [deity], protect/rx/ress/or of earth
the parent, the creator, giver of birth

I invoke [deity] and invite [pronoun] to
partake in the reverence and gratitude due

_______________________________________________________________

Note: I will be using my culture’s main earth deity, Coatlicue. Please feel free to replace her name with your chosen deity.

*You may replace the following steps with the alternatives listed above

Place/have your assistant place the candle on your altar or safe flat space then sign or say internally/externally:

Coatlicue, the cherished, my beloved
I offer you this candle

OR

Coatlicue, the cherished, my beloved
I offer you my devotion and promise of protection

While encircling candle with the dirt or visualizing:

I offer you this land, this soil
Bending the veil between the worlds
Allowing us to communicate free from worldly distractions

While lighting the candle or visualizing:

I offer you this fire
In hopes that it will cleanse and vitalize
May the dripping of the wax and smoke that rises from the wick
Act as symbols for the elements that you so lovingly host

OR

I offer the fire of my promise
In hopes that it will cleanse and vitalize
May the wind in my breath and water in my blood
Act as symbols for the elements that you so loving host

Coatlicue, I call to you
Humbled by your resilience
In reverence of your beauty
Coatlicue, I reaffirm my oath to you
I will do my part in protecting the resources you grant us
I will do my part in protecting your sacred children and those who live with empathy

Coatlicue, I give you my love and respect
May your water and air run clean and aid in life’s propagation
May fire be restored to its rightful place as protector of dry land
May those who live with empathy overcome all obstacles
May we rejoice in protecting your right to abundance and prosperity

And so it is

Proceed to meditate in front of the candle or while visualizing for as long as you like.

If the candle has not burned out and you are able let it burn

If you cannot leave the candle to burn you may snuff it out and keep it with your sacred tools until next Mother’s Day
